Class of 1969 Honorary Scholarship
Vivian Povak
Eric W. Ackner Scholarship
This meaningful scholarship is given in honor of Eric W. Ackner, Queensbury High School Class of 2014. It recognizes a senior who thinks outside the box, celebrates different ways of learning, respects others, and embraces the idea that everyone has unique talents and abilities to share in a positive and lasting way. This year’s recipient of the Eric W. Ackner Scholarship was awarded to Vivian Povak.
Vivian embodies all of these qualities. A hardworking and motivated student, she plans to pursue Early Childhood Education at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, PA. “I’ve learned that working hard is the key to overcoming my challenges, a lesson I want to pass on to other students with learning disabilities or epilepsy as a teacher.” Vivian set three goals when she entered high school: to earn a Regents diploma, stay on the honor roll every quarter, and find a sport she loved. She accomplished each one—competing in Cross Country, Nordic Skiing, and Track before discovering her passion for rowing in her junior year. Vivian’s determination, compassion, and love of learning make her a perfect recipient of this award.
