 Alexander Kittell
Eric W. Ackner Scholarship

This meaningful scholarship is given in honor of Eric W. Ackner, Queensbury High School Class of 2014. This scholarship recognizes a senior who thinks outside the box, celebrates different ways of learning, respects others, and embraces the idea that everyone has unique talents and abilities to share in a positive and lasting way. This year’s recipient of the Eric W. Ackner Scholarship was awarded to Alexander Kittell.

Alexander plans to study Speech and Hearing Sciences and pursue a career as a Speech-Language Pathologist specializing in helping children with developmental disabilities. Through his Educational Internship Program placement and involvement with Best Buddies, he gained valuable experience working with students with special needs and developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of inclusion and connection. In his application, Alexander wrote, “I want to provide them with the voice they deserve,” reflecting his belief that every child should have the opportunity to communicate with confidence and dignity. QCSA is proud to recognize Alexander for his compassion, empathy, and dedication to helping others.

 Sydney Lamy
Alexander Orthodontics Scholarship

The Alexander Orthodontics Scholarship was established in the Spring of 2025 as a way to help a Queensbury graduate pursue their higher educational dreams. Alexander Orthodontics has a long history of helping the students of Queensbury through their support of academic, athletic, civic and social activities. The Award is intended to go to a deserving student who has worked hard, has a strong moral character, and has shown kindness and caring towards others. This year’s award is earmarked specifically to a student with an interest in dentistry and was presented to Sydney Lamy.

This fall, Sydney will attend Saint Lawrence University to study Biology and pursue her goal of becoming an orthodontist, inspired by her own experience with braces and the confidence they gave her. A dedicated softball player since the age of four, Sydney has also balanced academics with employment at Under Armour, where she earned recognition as a Most Valuable Teammate, while generously giving back through community service and her involvement in honor societies.

Marcia B. Austin Memorial Scholarship

The Marcia B. Austin Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 after her passing the previous year. Marcia worked in the Queensbury Elementary School for many years. Upon her retirement, she was elected as a member of the Queensbury Board of Education, where she served for several years. One of this year’s recipients of the Marcia B. Austin Memorial Scholarship was Karleigh Gordon.

Karleigh  will attend SUNY Brockport this fall, where she plans to study Physics and Education with the goal of becoming a high school physics teacher. Throughout her time at QHS, Karleigh combined her love of learning with a passion for helping others. She volunteered as a dance instructor at The Dance Center of Queensbury, was an active member of NHS, and served as President of the Astronomy Club. In that role, she helped organize an outreach event that taught elementary students about the solar eclipse and the importance of eclipse safety.

Hannah Scherer
Marcia B. Austin Memorial Scholarship

The Marcia B. Austin Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 after her passing the previous year. Marcia worked in the Queensbury Elementary School for many years. Upon her retirement, she was elected as a member of the Queensbury Board of Education, where she served for several years. One of this year’s recipients of the Marcia B. Austin Memorial Scholarship was Hannah Scherer.

Hannah will attend Colgate University this fall, where she plans to study Childhood Education and pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Inspired by the many educators who have positively impacted her life, Hannah hopes to give that same encouragement and support to future students. During her time at QHS, she found great meaning in cross country and track, where she developed leadership skills, resilience, and lasting friendships. Hannah also embraced the challenges of the IB Diploma Program, gaining valuable analytical and problem-solving skills, while her dedication to Chamber Orchestra allowed her to grow as a musician and leader. Through these experiences, Hannah has demonstrated the hard work, determination, and commitment to learning that will serve her well in the years ahead.

Carson Lindsell
Katie Beadnell Memorial Scholarship

The Class of 2007 established the Katie Beadnell Memorial Scholarship in memory of Katie, who tragically passed away in an accident. Katie was deeply involved in dance and Girl Scouts and had dreamed of a future in journalism The Katie Beadnell Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Carson Lindsell.

Carson will attend Siena College this fall, where she plans to major in Nursing with the goal of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). During her time at QHS, Carson gained valuable experience through an internship at a doctor’s office, which confirmed her desire to pursue a career in healthcare. She also enjoyed serving as historian for Tri-M, singing with the Madrigals, and participating in music, dance, and volleyball, activities that helped her develop teamwork, discipline, and a commitment to helping others.

Kaylee Prevost
Katie Beadnell Memorial Scholarship

The class of 2007 established the Katie Beadnell Memorial Scholarship after the passing of Katie in a tragic accident. Katie spent many years in dance and Girl Scouts and wished to pursue a career in journalism. The Katie Beadnell Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Kaylee Prevost.

Kaylee has enjoyed her time participating in Mock Trial and NHS. Outside of the classroom, she has been involved with both Girl Scouts and dance since Kindergarten. Kaylee will be attending SUNY Canton this fall, where she will study Criminal Investigation. Best wishes to you Kaylee from the QCSA!

Josephine K. Burgess History Scholarship

The Gillian Burgess Tingley & Josephine K. Burgess Nursing Scholarship was established in honor of two inspiring sisters who were lifelong advocates for students pursuing their dreams. Josephine Burgess studied Home Economics at the University of Kentucky, later earning her master’s from Rivier College in New Hampshire. Her career took her into retail and eventually Human Resources with Boston Scientific, where she worked after moving to Queensbury to be near family. Gillian Tingley made a mid-life career change at age 44, studying nursing at SUNY Adirondack and later working in pediatrics at Albany Medical Center. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011, Gillian’s nursing background was invaluable—not only in her own care, but in connecting with young patients fighting similar battles. She later served as a Public Health Nurse with Warren County, continuing her legacy of care and compassion. This year’s scholarship was presented to Emeri Bartlett.

Emeri will begin her studies at SUNY Adirondack this fall to pursue a career in nursing. She explored the field through the BOCES program and has already begun making a difference, volunteering with Queensbury EMS and earning CPR/AED and First Aid certification.

Kim Chase Memorial Scholarship

Rory will attend Clarkson University, where he plans to study Biology as a pathway toward a career in Physical Therapy. Inspired by a desire to help others, Rory hopes to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with pain and physical challenges. A captain of the QHS Varsity Swim Team, Rory credits swimming with teaching him discipline, endurance, leadership, empathy, and kindness. He also gained valuable experience as a lifeguard, developing strong communication and teamwork skills while helping keep others safe. An internship at a physical therapy practice further solidified his career goals, giving him firsthand insight into the impact compassionate care can have on patients.

Ryan Greenstein
Nesbert R.  and Thea Dehoney Memorial Scholarship

The Nesbert R. and Thea DeHoney Memorial Scholarship honors two beloved educators who dedicated their lives to teaching and inspiring others. Nesbert DeHoney was a longtime high school math teacher and department chair, as well as a dedicated coach across several sports for over three decades. His wife, Thea, was a physical education teacher in local school districts, known for her work with BOCES Adult Education Programs and women’s adult swim and volleyball leagues. This year’s recipient of the Nesbert R. & Thea DeHoney Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Ryan Greenstein.

Ryan will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this fall to study Computer Science, where he hopes to explore software engineering, artificial intelligence, and program development. His passion for math and technology is reflected in the Mighty Mathletes program he created—an interactive learning website now helping elementary students build their math skills. A six-year member and captain of the varsity tennis team, Ryan also embraced the sport for the friendships it fostered, his growth as a player, and the opportunity to lead by ensuring every teammate had a positive and memorable experience.

Peter T. Donnelly Memorial Scholarship

Peter Donnelly devoted his career to the students of QHS, first as Director of Guidance and later as the administrator overseeing Pupil Personnel Services and Special Education for the Queensbury Union Free School District. Remembered for his infectious smile, generous heart, and genuine compassion for those facing life’s daily challenges, Peter made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students and families. Established in his memory, this scholarship recognizes students who reflect his kindness, positive spirit, and outstanding character.  One of this year’s recipients of the Peter T. Donnelly Memorial Scholarship was Madelyn Dinsmore.

Madelyn will attend SUNY Oneonta this fall, where she plans to major in Biology as she pursues a career in physical therapy. Inspired by her passion for helping others and the science of the human body and movement, Madelyn strengthened her commitment to this career by completing a 20-week physical therapy shadowing experience at Glens Falls Hospital. At QHS, she served as Community Service Chair for the French Honor Society, coordinating volunteer opportunities for fellow students, and was an active member of National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, the QHS Musical, and Madrigal Singers, sharing her love of music through performances at nursing homes and community events. 

Quinn Jones
Peter T. Donnelly Memorial Scholarship

Quinn will attend Bryant University this fall, where she plans to major in Exercise Science. Passionate about health, nutrition, and helping others become their best selves, Quinn hopes to build a career in performance or corporate wellness. At QHS, she demonstrated exceptional leadership as captain of the soccer, basketball, and lacrosse teams, where she developed the communication, responsibility, and leadership skills that will continue to serve her well. Quinn also enjoyed giving back through National Honor Society, Math Club, FBLA, and Hoopers, while balancing several jobs that strengthened her work ethic, patience, and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.

Peyton Conway
Kristen J. Field STEM Scholarship

The Class of 1999 Kristen J. Field STEM Scholarship is awarded in honor of Kristen J. Field, a proud graduate of Queensbury High School, Class of 1999. Kristen, and the entire Field family, have long been dedicated supporters of both Queensbury Schools and the broader community. While at QHS, Kristen was deeply involved in student life: she was a founding member and Treasurer of the first SADD chapter, an active member of NHS, Key Club, Art Club, and served as Editor of the yearbook. She also sang in the choir, played viola in the orchestra, and embraced every opportunity to learn and lead. It was at Queensbury that Kristen’s passion for STEM took root, fueled by her love of science, math, and technology. Today, she continues to pursue her interest in these fields, especially neuroscience, and hopes to inspire more young women to follow STEM paths and use their talents to make a difference. This scholarship honors students who exemplify hard work, kindness, and a true passion for leaving the world better than they found it. One of this year’s recipients of the Kristen J. Field STEM Scholarship was Peyton Conway.

Peyton will attend Clarkson University this fall, where she plans to study Aerospace Engineering. Inspired by stargazing with her dad in the Adirondacks and her involvement in the QHS Rocket Club, Peyton discovered a passion for aerospace engineering and hopes to develop more sustainable rocket technology to help protect the environment she loves. At QHS, she served as president of Rocket Club and National Honor Society, captained the Alpine Ski Team, and found great fulfillment mentoring younger students and giving back through community service.

Marina will attend SUNY Geneseo this fall, where she plans to major in Biochemistry as she prepares for medical school and a career making a positive impact in the medical field. At QHS, Marina was a two-year captain of the varsity swim team, where she discovered confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships, and she will continue her swimming career at Geneseo. She was also an active member and treasurer of the Chamber Orchestra and completed the rigorous IB Diploma Programme, developing the critical thinking and time-management skills that will serve her well in college and beyond. 

Susan Parker

Susan will attend Vassar College this fall, where she plans to study Cognitive Science. Inspired by a desire to better understand the human mind, Susan hopes to use her education to improve the lives of others, particularly those facing mental health challenges. At QHS, she was a captain of the varsity cheerleading team, where she developed confidence, leadership, and a passion for encouraging others. She also completed the rigorous IB Diploma Programme and found great meaning in volunteering at Unified Basketball games, helping create an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.

Adam Sweeney Memorial Scholarship

The Adam Sweeney Memorial Scholarship was established by his teacher, Lisa Higley, following Adam’s sudden passing in December 2021. Adam was known for his humor, his smile, his laugh, and his loving nature. He radiated warmth and happiness, touching countless lives during his short 18 years. He loved spending time with his family, watching wrestling, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and attending car races. Adam was a member of Best Buddies and loved playing unified basketball with his classmates. Even during his time in the hospital, Adam’s greatest wish was to return home, not only to his family and pets, but also to school. He truly loved learning, sharing ideas, and connecting with others. His passion, kindness, and genuine joy for life are the qualities this scholarship honors. This year’s recipient of the Adam Sweeney Memorial Scholarship was Ashlynn Sweeney.

Ashlynn will attend Hartwick College this fall, where she plans to study Sociology and Social Work with the goal of becoming a clinical social worker, helping those facing mental health challenges and ensuring no one feels alone. Through Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, and her work at Dunkin’, Ashlynn has demonstrated compassion, leadership, and empathy, while her plans to become a counselor at Skye Farm Camp reflect her desire to create positive experiences for children. As Adam’s sister, she has carried forward his legacy not only by helping establish this scholarship, but by living the values of kindness, resilience, and service that defined his life.

John and Tina Dwyer Family Memorial Scholarship

The John and Tina Dwyer Family Memorial Scholarship award was established in 2001 in memory of Tina Dwyer by her husband, John, the scholarship was expanded in 2016 by the Dwyer children to also honor their father following his passing. The Dwyer family have always been strong supporters of the Queensbury School District and its soccer program. John Dwyer generously served the community through the Queensbury Board of Education, Dollars for Scholars, the Senior Citizens Council, and various youth soccer organizations in the region. One of this year’s recipients of the John and Tina Dwyer Family Memorial Scholarship was Emerson Brooks.

Emerson Brooks will attend SUNY Oswego this fall, where she plans to study Kinesiology or Physical Therapy, inspired by her passion for understanding how the body moves and helping others reach their full potential. A dedicated three-sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse throughout high school, Emerson developed resilience, teamwork, and leadership both on and off the field. She also found great fulfillment giving back through Unified Sports, helping students feel included and supported, and by coaching younger athletes through Super Hoopers. Her involvement in FBLA further strengthened her confidence and leadership skills. 

Tanner Roode
John and Tina Dwyer Family Memorial Scholarship

The John and Tina Dwyer Family Memorial Scholarship award was established in 2001 in memory of Tina Dwyer by her husband, John, the scholarship was expanded in 2016 by the Dwyer children to also honor their father following his passing. The Dwyer family have always been strong supporters of the Queensbury School District and its soccer program. John Dwyer generously served the community through the Queensbury Board of Education, Dollars for Scholars, the Senior Citizens Council, and various youth soccer organizations in the region. One of this year’s recipients of the John and Tina Dwyer Family Memorial Scholarship was Tanner Roode.

Tanner Roode will attend North Carolina State University this fall, where he plans to major in Sports Management. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Tanner discovered that his true passion lies behind the scenes, helping shape the business side of the sports industry. At QHS, he served as captain of both the varsity soccer and varsity tennis teams, developing leadership skills while building lasting friendships with his teammates. Tanner also expanded his interest in business through FBLA and gave back to the community as a member of National Honor Society, experiences that strengthened his appreciation for service and teamwork. 

Jocelyn Seiler
Patrick R. Eppedico Memorial Scholarship

The Patrick R. Eppedico Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Patrick R. Eppedico, a retired New York City Police Officer who later made Queensbury his home, this scholarship was created by his wife, Ann, who served for many years in the QHS Attendance Office. Patrick’s legacy also lives on through his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and James Cirillo, who have dedicated many years as music educators in our district. One of this year’s recipient of the Patrick R. Eppedico Memorial Scholarship was Jocelyn Seiler.

Annabelle Martin
Grace Foote Memorial Scholarship

Grace Foote, a member of the QHS Class of 1999, graduated one year early despite facing debilitating medical challenges. During the final years of her illness, Grace’s greatest wish was to visit Disney World, a wish that was granted by several compassionate QHS faculty members shortly after her graduation. Inspired by Grace’s remarkable strength and determination, those faculty members established this memorial scholarship to honor a senior with strong character who demonstrates courage in the face of adversity. One of this year’s recipients of the Grace Foote Memorial Scholarship was Annabelle Martin.

Annabelle will attend SUNY Oswego this fall, where she plans to study Business Administration as she works toward her dream of opening her own business. During her time at QHS, she embraced opportunities to serve and grow through volunteering in the children’s department at the Hudson Falls Free Library, where she fostered a love of learning and creativity, competing on the varsity cheerleading team, and working at Target, where she gained a deeper appreciation for integrity, empathy, teamwork, and gratitude. She was also active in NCBI, served as vice president of the Cooking Club, and dedicated her time to helping others in her community. 

Cheyenne Steves
Grace Foote Memorial Scholarship

Grace Foote, a member of the QHS Class of 1999, graduated one year early despite facing debilitating medical challenges. Cheyenne will attend the Paul Mitchell School in Schenectady, where she will pursue cosmetology, inspired by her passion for helping people feel confident. During her time at QHS, she found her greatest fulfillment through her involvement in the National Art Honor Society, Summit Venture, and the Yearbook Club, experiences that allowed her to develop her creativity, collaborate with others, and contribute to her school community.

Gianna Marcantonio
Robert Gannon Memorial Scholarship

The Robert Gannon Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory of Robert Gannon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and beloved member of the Greenwich community who passed away in November 2022, this scholarship honors a man known for his strong character, tireless work ethic, and deep love of family. Bob was the heart of both his family and community, always offering a helping hand and wise advice. Robert’s greatest joy was being a grandfather. Though his grandchildren have since graduated from Queensbury High School, the Gannon family maintains a strong connection to the district and is forever grateful for the incredible care Robert received at Fort Hudson nursing home. In gratitude for the exceptional care Robert received at Fort Hudson, the Gannon family awards this scholarship to a hardworking student pursuing a career in healthcare. The Robert Gannon Memorial Scholarship was awarded this year to Gianna Marcantonio.

Gianna will attend Utica University this fall, where she plans to major in Biology as she works toward her goal of becoming a physician assistant, inspired by her desire to help people through illness and recovery. A three-sport varsity athlete in field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse, Gianna served as captain of the field hockey team and earned the Foothills Council Sportsmanship Award for lacrosse. She also volunteered with Girls Learn to Play, mentoring young hockey players, and was an active member of FBLA. In her application, Gianna shared that Coach Chirgwin had a lasting impact on her, teaching her not only how to excel as an athlete, but how to become the best version of herself.

Daniel Habshi
Raymond G. Gordon Memorial Scholarship

Raymond Gordon graduated in 1964 from the Whitehall Central School and continued his education at Adirondack Community College and Castleton State College. He taught for 33 years at the Fort Ann Central School as the business and marketing educator. Ray dedicated 28 years to the Queensbury Board of Education, including five as Board President. Throughout his service, he helped shape policy, set educational goals, and advocate tirelessly for students, ensuring they had opportunities to grow in academics, athletics, and the arts, even as educational priorities evolved. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and commitment to public education, Ray received numerous awards from the New York State School Boards Association. One of this year’s recipients of the Raymond G. Gordon Memorial Scholarship was Daniel Habshi .

Daniel will attend SUNY Adirondack this fall, where he plans to study Finance, inspired by his love of business and the encouragement of his aunt, who shared her own experiences in the field. During his time at QHS, Daniel served two terms as Class President during his freshman and sophomore years and was actively involved in lacrosse, FBLA, and National Honor Society. Through these experiences, he developed leadership, teamwork, and a passion for business while giving back to his community through volunteer service. 

Olivia Murray
Raymond G. Gordon Memorial Scholarship

Raymond Gordon graduated in 1964 from the Whitehall Central School and continued his education at Adirondack Community College and Castleton State College. Olivia will begin her studies at SUNY Adirondack this fall as she works toward her long-term goal of owning and managing her own salon, with plans to pursue cosmetology and business to prepare for a future in entrepreneurship. During her time at QHS, Olivia demonstrated outstanding leadership and service through Key Club, where she developed a deep appreciation for giving back to her community, and Teen Advocacy Group, where she served as both Treasurer and President, promoting positivity, wellness, and responsible decision-making among her peers. She was also an active member of FBLA, where she strengthened her leadership, professionalism, and passion for business.

Norah Hunt
Sarah Gryga Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Sarah Gryga, a member of the QHS Class of 2005 who passed away following a long and courageous battle with cancer just weeks after graduation, this scholarship honors Sarah’s love of the written word and her dedication to the yearbook editorial staff. This year’s recipient of the Sarah Gryga Memorial Scholarship was Norah Hunt.

Norah will attend SUNY Adirondack this fall, where she plans to study Marketing, Public Relations, or Business, with hopes of combining her creativity, leadership, and passion for connecting with people in a future career. At QHS, she served as captain of both the softball and basketball teams, was Public Relations Officer for FBLA, and found a creative outlet through Yearbook Club, where she enjoyed designing pages that captured lasting memories for her classmates.

Sarah Gryga Memorial Scholarship

Sarah Gryga, a beloved member of the Class of 2005, passed away the summer after her high school graduation following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a devoted member of the yearbook editorial staff and had a true passion for writing. One of  this year’s recipients of the Sarah Gryga Memorial Scholarship was Cynthia Zheng.

Cynthia will be attending Cornell University this fall to study Chemical Engineering, with hopes of making an impact in medicine through pharmaceuticals. Cynthia shyly joined the QHS Yearbook Club as a freshman and eventually rose to serve as both Secretary and Editor-in-Chief. Guided by her “wonderful yearbook advisors,” Cynthia shared that she learned “the critical skills of accepting imperfections as a unique sign of human creation, and being open to criticism—allowing my work to be seen through both praise and scrutiny.” A passionate violinist, Cynthia treasures the arts as a creative outlet and was grateful for the many musical opportunities she experienced in school. Through Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cynthia formed a close and meaningful bond with her “Little,” learning the power of empathy and guidance. Their weekly time together became the highlight of both of their weeks.

The Peggy Jablonski Memorial Scholarship

The Peggy Jablonski Memorial Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Peggy Jablonski, a beloved member of the Queensbury School District. For over 12 years, Peggy brought warmth, kindness, and dedication to her roles as a Technology Aide and in the offices at WHBI and QES. She was known for her genuine care and lasting friendships. Devoted to her husband, Tom, and daughter, Jessica, Peggy also loved the outdoors, flower gardening, and biking. In keeping with Peggy’s compassionate spirit and commitment to the school community, this award recognizes a student who demonstrates those same qualities.. This year’s recipient of the Peggy Jablonski Memorial Scholarship was Eagan Breault.

Eagan will attend Paul Smith’s College this fall, where he plans to study Environmental Science, inspired by his lifelong love of the outdoors and his desire to protect and preserve the natural world. Throughout high school, he made a lasting impact as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, a four-year member of the varsity hockey team who participated in Pink the Rink and community food drives, and a member of the Leadership Committee. Through the Career and Technical Education Center for Conservation and Forestry, he also served as President of Southern Adirondack FFA and Student Council President, earning praise for leading with empathy, integrity, and a genuine commitment to others.

Dr. Jack V. Irion Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Jack V. Irion Memorial Scholarship was established by the Irion family as well as members of the school community. This scholarship honors Dr. Irion’s 20 years of dedicated service as the second Superintendent of the Queensbury School District. A passionate supporter of all QHS athletic programs, Dr. Irion always placed students at the heart of every decision he made. This year’s recipient of the Dr. Jack V. Irion Memorial Scholarship was Jaidah McMaster.

Jaidah will attend the University at Buffalo this fall, where she will pursue a degree in Nursing as she works toward her goal of becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, combining her passion for healthcare with her desire to help others. A three-year captain of the varsity track and field team, she strengthened her leadership through athletics and Captain’s Club, while her involvement in Unified Bocce, Bowling, and Basketball deepened her commitment to supporting students with special needs and building meaningful connections. As treasurer of the Madrigal Singers, she also found joy in music and the friendships it fostered.

Dr. Jack V. Irion Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Jack V. Irion Memorial Scholarship was established by the Irion family as well as members of the school community. Sergeant Ted B. Islas Memorial Scholarship

Sergeant Islas began his 23-year career with the New York State Police in March of 1989. He served in the Watertown and Canton areas as a Trooper before obtaining the rank of Sergeant in 1996. Throughout his tenure, Sergeant Islas was the Malone Station Commander, a counselor at the New York State Police Academy, the Troop B Fitness Coordinator, and finished his career at the Forensic Investigation Center in Albany. Physical fitness and various outdoor activities were very important to him, but he was also known for his kindness, fairness, honesty, and love for his family. This year’s recipient of the Sergeant Ted B. Islas Memorial Scholarship is Laura Dickerson.

Laura excelled in Ice Hockey, Diving, and Lacrosse. She was most proud of being a founding player of Queensbury’s first-ever girls ice hockey team, The United. She believes “sports has helped mold me into a well-rounded individual by not only helping me grow athletically and physically, but also helping me build the confidence that spills over into other areas of my life.” Laura enjoyed the opportunity as a group leader during a robotic-themed day at QES to teach the students a new skill and was very proud to see them become more confident in their abilities. This fall, Laura will be attending St Michael’s College in Vermont with plans to study Criminology and Psychology. She is considering becoming a Forensic Psychologist. Daniel Kane Memorial Scholarship

Mia will attend Hobart and William Smith Colleges this fall, where she plans to study Environmental Science, inspired by her leadership with the Adirondack Solar Alliance and a life-changing service trip to Puerto Rico to help install solar panels at a nursing home. Through that experience, she saw firsthand how sustainable energy can improve lives and discovered her passion for making a difference through environmental work. At QHS, Mia served as captain of the girls soccer team, President of Key Club after previously serving as Treasurer, Vice President of the Climate Action Club, and co-founded the Pickleball Club, demonstrating outstanding leadership, service, and initiative.

The William J. Landsiedel Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Bill Landsiedel, who taught chemistry and served as a beloved High School Counselor at Queensbury for over 30 years. One of this year’s recipient of the William J. Landsiedel Memorial Scholarship was Ruby Janssen.

Ruby will attend SUNY Geneseo this fall, where she plans to study Psychology with the goal of becoming a therapist and helping others navigate life’s challenges. At QHS, Ruby was a dedicated three-season varsity athlete in cross country, Nordic skiing, and track and field, serving as captain of the cross country team and earning the opportunity to continue running at the collegiate level. She was also an accomplished musician, serving as viola section leader and Chamber Orchestra secretary, performing with the Chamber Orchestra, Tri-M Honor Society, the pit orchestra for The Wizard of Oz, and the Area All-State Orchestra. In addition, Ruby shared her love of language and culture as President of the French Honor Society, leading volunteer projects while fostering an appreciation for the French language and francophone cultures.

Inspired by her love of chemistry at QHS, including IB Chemistry, she hopes to promote the importance of oral health and make a positive impact on the lives of children. During her time at QHS, Lucci was a dedicated four-year member of the Mock Trial team, where she developed confidence in public speaking, teamwork, and communication. She also served as President of Book Club after previously serving as Vice President, Secretary of the Spanish Honor Society, and an NCBI Trainer, helping foster an inclusive school community where everyone feels heard and respected. As a full IB Diploma candidate, she embraced the challenges of rigorous coursework while continuing to pursue her passion for piano.

Nathan Alan Linck Memorial Scholarship

The Nathan Alan Linck Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Nathan Linck, a 1994 graduate of QHS and the beloved son of Alan and Penny Linck. While at Queensbury, Nate was known among his peers for his outgoing and fun-loving personality. Nathan was a proud member of the National Honor Society and the Queensbury Cross-Country Ski Team. He went on to study at St. Lawrence University, where he pursued his passion for Environmental Studies. Nathan’s father, Alan Linck, taught health and science at QMS and coached for many years. One of this year’s recipients of the Nathan Alan Linck Memorial Scholarship was Ava Goertzen.

Ava will attend St. Lawrence University this fall, where she plans to study Biomedical Sciences as she works toward her goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, inspired by her desire to help athletes recover from injuries and return to the sports they love. A standout student-athlete, Ava excelled in varsity soccer, softball, and track and field, earning multiple Foothills Council and Section II honors, including being named the Foothills Council Defensive Player of the Year in soccer. She also competed with Empire City Soccer Academy and looks forward to continuing her track career in college. Beyond athletics, Ava has worked at Martha’s Dandee Creme since her sophomore year, where she enjoys brightening customers’ days while developing a strong work ethic and lasting friendships.

The Nathan Alan Linck Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Nathan Linck, a 1994 graduate of QHS and the beloved son of Alan and Penny Linck. A dedicated student leader, Alexis served as captain of both the varsity swim and track teams, where she learned the importance of encouraging and supporting others while leading by example. She also served as Secretary of the Teen Advocacy Group, was an accomplished violist in the Chamber Orchestra, and volunteered her musical talents while mentoring younger students. Outside of school, Alexis worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor, demonstrating responsibility, leadership, and a commitment to keeping others safe.

Deanna Lamkins
Dr. Lomanto Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Donald Lomanto, former Superintendent of the Queensbury Union Free School District, was known for his positive outlook, quick wit, visionary leadership, and unwavering integrity. His service to the district was cut far too short by cancer in 2001, but his legacy continues to inspire. The Dr. Donald Lomanto Memorial Scholarship was established by our community in his loving memory. This year’s recipient of the Dr. Donald Lomanto Memorial Scholarship was Deanna Lamkins.

Deanna will attend Siena University this fall, where she plans to pursue a degree in Nursing, inspired by the compassionate hospice nurses who cared for her father during his battle with cancer, with the goal of one day becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). During her time at QHS, she taught Spanish to elementary and middle school students through the Spanish Honor Society, served as Secretary of the International Club, embraced the challenges of the IB Diploma Programme, and gained valuable firsthand healthcare experience through an internship at Adirondack Pediatrics.

Nino Manzella Memorial Scholarship

The Nino Manzella Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Nino Manzella, a dedicated QHS parent who was a passionate supporter of Queensbury’s Cross Country Running and Nordic Ski Programs, dedicating countless hours to encouraging student-athletes and strengthening both teams. Nino believed deeply in the values of hard work, team unity, optimism, and unwavering loyalty, principles he lived by and admired in student-athletes. One of this year’s recipient of the Nino Manzella Memorial Scholarship was Christopher DiPlacido.

Christopher will attend Cornell University this fall, where he plans to explore studies in chemistry, philosophy, and Spanish with the goal of pursuing a career in cardiology and helping others. A National Merit Finalist, Christopher demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout his time at QHS, serving as Student Senate President and representing the student body on the Board of Education. He was also captain of the cross country, Nordic skiing, and track teams, helping lead the Nordic ski team to a New York State Championship while exemplifying the perseverance, teamwork, and dedication that define this scholarship. As an IB Diploma candidate, he embraced academic rigor while developing the critical thinking skills that will serve him well in the future.

Nino Manzella Memorial Scholarship

The Nino Manzella Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Nino Manzella, a dedicated QHS parent who was a passionate supporter of Queensbury’s Cross Country Running and Nordic Ski Programs, dedicating countless hours to encouraging student-athletes and strengthening both teams. Nino believed deeply in the values of hard work, team unity, optimism, and unwavering loyalty, principles he lived by and admired in student-athletes. One of this year’s recipient of the Nino Manzella Memorial Scholarship was Finley Purvis.

Finley will attend SUNY Geneseo this fall, where she plans to major in Early Childhood Education, inspired by a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and by the example of her father, an elementary school teacher. Throughout her time at QHS, Finley embraced the values of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance as a year-round athlete in cross country, Nordic skiing, and track. She also made a meaningful impact through Key Club, volunteering with Special Olympics, the Ben Osborn Memorial Fund, and the Snack Pack Program to serve her school and community. Through the Educational Internship Program, Finley gained valuable hands-on experience in a kindergarten classroom, strengthening her passion for teaching and preparing her for the career she has always envisioned.

Roger Marcy Memorial Scholarship

Roger Marcy dedicated 35 years to Queensbury High School as a beloved teacher and administrator. He began his career in the district as an English teacher in 1962, became Assistant Principal in 1974, and served as Principal from 1990 until his retirement in 1998. Even after retiring, Roger continued to give back—serving on the Queensbury Board of Education and taking on leadership roles as Principal at St. Mary’s/St. Alphonsus Regional Catholic School in Glens Falls and later at a parochial school in Utah. This year’s recipient of the Roger Marcy Memorial Scholarship was Kira Turner.

Kira will attend SUNY Plattsburgh this fall, where she plans to major in Social Work with the goal of helping people through a variety of meaningful career paths. During her time at QHS, Kira grew as both a leader and communicator, serving as President and Editor-in-Chief of the Spartan Scoop newspaper after previously serving as secretary, and as secretary of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also found confidence and lasting friendships through the Madrigal Singers and gained valuable professional experience through her technical theater work with Broadway Upstate.

Claire McIntyre dedicated decades of service to the Queensbury School District as administrative secretary to both William Barton, the district’s first superintendent, and Dr. Jack V. Irion, the district’s second superintendent. She was known for her unwavering dedication, warm sense of humor, and the special way she made new staff members feel welcome and at home. Through this scholarship, her legacy of kindness, service, and support for others continues to inspire future generations of QHS students. One of this year’s recipients of  The Claire McIntyre Memorial Scholarship was Aden Bengle.

Aden will attend Siena University this fall, where he plans to major in Criminal Justice. Through community service initiatives like Pink the Rink, Teddy Bear Toss, food drives, and mentoring younger players, he discovered that true leadership is measured by giving back. Time spent hunting, fishing, and working alongside his family in the Adirondacks also instilled a deep appreciation for hard work, responsibility, and service.

Hayden will attend Rochester Institute of Technology this fall, where he plans to study Mechanical Engineering. Fascinated by cutting-edge technology and innovation, he hopes to one day design advanced systems for the defense industry and contribute to the development of next-generation technology. At QHS, Hayden was a three-year member of the Varsity Tennis Team, where he learned the value of teamwork and supporting others while striving to achieve his own goals. Working at Rick’s Bike Shop since his freshman year helped him develop professionalism, customer service skills, and an even greater appreciation for cycling and mountain biking. He also enjoyed being part of the school’s fishing club, where he expanded his knowledge of fly fishing and discovered an even deeper passion for one of his favorite outdoor hobbies.

Caitlin will attend Binghamton University this fall, where she plans to explore her interests in biology, psychology, and occupational therapy. Drawn to understanding both the natural world and human behavior, she hopes to find a career that combines science with her passion for helping children. At QHS, Caitlin was a captain of the Girls Varsity Field Hockey Team, where she developed leadership skills while creating lasting memories with her teammates. She also spent three years playing violin in the pit orchestra for the school musicals, enjoying the teamwork and dedication that brought each production to life. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning a place in the highly selective All-State String Orchestra, an unforgettable experience that challenged her both musically and personally.

Malcolm McIntyre Memorial Scholarship

The Malcolm McIntyre Memorial Scholarship honors Malcolm McIntyre, a beloved sixth-grade teacher at Queensbury Middle School. Established by his wife Claire, who served for many years as secretary to the District Superintendent of Schools, this scholarship supports students pursuing a career in teaching to make a difference in the lives of others. One of this year’s recipients of Malcolm McIntyre Memorial Scholarship was Allison Bartone.

Allison will attend SUNY Plattsburgh this fall, where she plans to major in Elementary Education. Inspired by her first-grade teacher, Mrs. Florick, Allison has dreamed of becoming a teacher since she was young and is excited to pursue a career helping children learn and grow. At QHS, she gained valuable leadership experience while advancing from court monitor to manager at Sky Zone Queensbury, strengthening her communication and people skills along the way. Through the ECCA Pathways to Teaching program at SUNY Adirondack, she earned a year of college credit, formed lasting friendships, and deepened her understanding of the teaching profession under the guidance of Professor Kirwan. Her classroom job-shadowing experiences further reinforced her passion for education by exposing her to a variety of teaching styles and learning environments.

The Malcolm McIntyre Memorial Scholarship honors Malcolm McIntyre, a beloved sixth-grade teacher at Queensbury Middle School. Established by his wife Claire, who served for many years as secretary to the District Superintendent of Schools, this scholarship supports students pursuing a career in teaching to make a difference in the lives of others. One of this year’s recipients of Malcolm McIntyre Memorial Scholarship was Eamon Linehan.

Eamon will attend SUNY Geneseo this fall, where he plans to study Neuroscience. With a strong interest in science and a challenging high school course load, he is excited to continue exploring the field and building on the foundation he developed at QHS. Throughout high school, Eamon was a dedicated member of the Varsity Swim Team for four years and served as captain during his senior season. Swimming taught him leadership, discipline, and perseverance while creating friendships and mentorships that will last a lifetime. As an IB Diploma student, he embraced academic challenges that strengthened his grit, patience, and resilience. His involvement in both the NHS and Spanish Honor Society also provided meaningful opportunities to give back to the community through volunteer service.

Cody Miller Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Cody Miller, a QHS Class of 2010 graduate, was known for his bright personality, wit, strong character, and love of family and friends. The Cody Miller Memorial Scholarship honors his legacy by proudly recognizing students who embody those same values of integrity and achievement. The recipient of the Cody Miller Memorial Scholarship was Cole Sheerer.

Cole will attend the University at Buffalo this fall, where he plans to explore biotechnology, biology, and forensics. At QHS, he excelled both in and out of the classroom, challenging himself through AP, IB, and SUNY college courses while serving as captain of the varsity basketball team and competing in varsity baseball. His involvement in NHS, Spanish National Honor Society, and Key Club reflected his commitment to leadership, service, and academic excellence. Outside of school, Cole balanced demanding jobs as a lead deckhand for the Lake George Steamboat Company, a ski instructor at West Mountain, and youth basketball coach, experiences that strengthened his leadership, work ethic, and sense of responsibility.

Jeffry Morrison Memorial Scholarship

Established by his family in 1999, the year he would have graduated, the Jeffry Morrison Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of the passionate baseball fan and Queensbury Middle School student who tragically lost his life in a bicycle accident. This scholarship honors his memory by recognizing students who embody determination, kindness, and a commitment to excellence. This year’s recipient of the Jeffry Morrison Memorial Scholarship was Jessica Brooks.

Jessica will attend Clarkson University this fall, where she plans to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy. Inspired by her own positive experiences with physical therapy, she hopes to help others regain strength, mobility, and confidence while making a meaningful difference in their lives. At QHS, Jessica challenged herself through AP, IB, and SUNY coursework. She enjoyed her time as the VP of the French Honor Society, where she promoted French language and culture and helped teach younger students. She was also a dedicated varsity softball player, an active member of the NHS, and volunteered as a soccer coach for young children, reflecting her commitment to leadership, service, and helping others.

Delaney Sano
Henry D. Olson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in January 2020 by the family and friends of Henry D. Olson. Henry D. Olson, QHS Class of 2016, passed away suddenly at home due to complications from a medical condition. Known for his radiant smile and infectious humor, Henry lit up the stage in three QHS musicals, as well as productions with the Hudson River Shakespeare Company, SUNY Adirondack Theater Program, and the Lake Theater at the Holiday Inn in Lake George. His passions extended beyond theater to history, camping, cats, video games, Jeeps, the Washington Capitals, the New York Jets, and, most importantly, spending time with family. At the time of his passing, Henry was completing his degree in Automobile Technology.   This year’s Henry D. Olson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Delaney Sano.

Delaney will attend DePaul University this fall, where she plans to study directing, a passion she has embraced through years of leadership and creativity in the performing arts. A familiar face on the QHS stage, Delaney earned lead roles in every high school musical she performed in, captivating audiences as Annie, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family, and the Gingerbread Man in Shrek. Under Mr. Terry’s direction, she became one of the school’s most accomplished performers, and now looks forward to telling stories from behind the scenes as she pursues her dream of becoming a director.

Mark Orlosky Memorial Scholarship

Mark Orlosky was a beloved local musician who passed away in 2018. A talented keyboardist, guitarist, and songwriter, Mark also shared his skills behind the scenes, working with his son, Brandon, to design sound systems for musical groups and bands throughout the region. This scholarship is intended to assist a student who has a passion for music and is pursuing further education in either vocal or instrumental performance, music education, music therapy, production, or song writing. This year’s Mark Orlosky Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Evan Baird.

Mark Orlosky Memorial Scholarship

Mark Orlosky was a well-known local musician who passed away in 2018. He played the keyboard, guitar, and had a passion for songwriting. In addition to performing regionally, Mark worked with his son, Brandon, designing sound systems for other musical performance groups and bands. This year, the Mark Orlosky Memorial Scholarship was presented to Kindel Huffaker.

Kindle has participated in music in Queensbury since the 3rd grade, when she joined the chorus. While watching her older brother perform with the Madrigals, she aspired to become a member. She was thrilled to be selected to the group in 10th grade, which happened to be at the peak of the pandemic. Even with all of the masking and social distancing, her time with the group was “phenomenal.” She attributes her confidence as a musician to this group, values the lasting friendships she made with her peers, and adds, “I am fluent in the universal language of music and have fulfilled my wish of sharing it with the world.” Kindel will begin her studies this fall at Brigham Young University in Utah, where she plans to explore Childhood Education, Music Education, or Nursing. Frank Ovitt
Robert B. Patch Memorial Scholarship

Robert Patch was the first Principal of Queensbury Middle School, a World War II veteran, and an active member of the Queensbury Chapter of Foreign Wars. He dedicated many years as chairman of the Boys’ State Selection Committee. He is remembered for his leadership, strong values, and dedication to serving both his school and community. His contributions to both his country and the field of education are fondly remembered. This year’s recipient of the Robert B. Patch Memorial Scholarship was Frank Ovitt.

This fall, Frank will pursue a degree in Biochemistry on the pre-medical track, inspired by his grandfather’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease and a desire to advance medical research while caring for others. As Senior Patrol Leader of Boy Scout Troop 16, Frank led fellow scouts on a 400-mile backcountry trek through New Mexico, developing exceptional leadership and communication skills on the trail. He also served as Student Senate Vice President and Class of 2026 Treasurer, helping advocate for positive change within the school community while representing the student body before the Queensbury Board of Education. A four-year varsity baseball player and captain of the varsity ice hockey team, Frank balanced athletics with academic excellence, earning NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete recognition throughout his high school career.

John Quirk Memorial Scholarship

John Quirk was a beloved and respected English teacher and department chair at QHS for several decades. His humor, kindness, and talent left a lasting impression on students and colleagues alike. An accomplished poet, Mr. Quirk’s works appeared in Three Adirondack Poets and other publications of The Loft Press—a local literary magazine he co-founded. He also served on the Board of Directors for Crandall Library. Whenever he found a book he loved, he would often buy it, and share it with his many friends. This year’s recipient of the John Quirk Memorial Scholarship was Allison Bleyenburg.

Shirley Roach Memorial Scholarship

Shirley Roach was a devoted employee of the Queensbury School District for over 50 years! She is best known for her positive attitude, her love of learning, her love for her job, and her dedication to the students. Mrs. Roach’s career began as a member of the cafeteria staff, before accepting a position in the K-6 office. In the 1960’s, she took over as head of the 3-4 office in the newly built elementary school and she finished her career at Queensbury as the middle school guidance secretary. Mrs. Roach touched the lives of multiple generations in our community. This year’s recipient of the Shirley Roach Memorial Scholarship is Kaliyah Davis.

Betty Rooke Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of Betty Rooke, a dedicated member of the Queensbury High School faculty who inspired generations of students through her love of English literature and her many years as advisor to the school’s musical stage productions. Her passion for both the written word and the performing arts continues to live on through students who share those same interests and talents. One of this year’s recipient of the Betty Rooke Memorial Dramatic Arts/English Scholarship was William Brown.

William will attend SUNY Niagara this fall, where he plans to study Film and Animation, combining his lifelong love of storytelling with his passion for visual arts and filmmaking. Throughout his time at QHS, William immersed himself in every opportunity to develop his creative talents. As president of the National Art Honor Society, he encouraged fellow student artists while exploring a wide range of artistic disciplines through IB Art, SUNY Drawing, Illustration and Animation, Photography, and Video Production courses. His passion for film led him to create an original short film that earned acceptance into several highly regarded film programs. William also discovered a love of musical theater through QHS’s production of Shrek the Musical, an experience that inspired him to continue performing with local theater companies in productions including Finding Nemo Jr., Grease, Legally Blonde, Guys & Dolls, and more.

Betty Rooke Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of Betty Rooke, a dedicated member of the Queensbury High School faculty who inspired generations of students through her love of English literature and her many years as advisor to the school’s musical stage productions. Her passion for both the written word and the performing arts continues to live on through students who share those same interests and talents. One of this year’s recipient of the Betty Rooke Memorial Dramatic Arts/English Scholarship was Carter Stanclift.

Carter will attend Hobart & William Smith Colleges this fall, where he plans to study Law. Inspired by his father’s career as an attorney, he hopes to use the law to help others and ensure fairness within the legal system. A familiar face on the QHS stage, Carter performed in the school musical all four years, discovering confidence and a true love for theater along the way. He also shared his talents as a member of the Madrigal Singers, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and local theater groups including Broadway Upstate and the Bunbury Players and Company of Curiosities. Beyond the stage, Carter served as president of the Game Club, editor of the school newspaper, and dedicated countless hours to community service, mentoring younger students and performing throughout the community.

Miles DeJohn
Jonathan Crane Roop Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2026 by Jonathan’s family and friends, this scholarship honors the life of Dr. Jonathan Crane Roop, a Queensbury native who exemplified dedication, versatility, and warmth throughout his life.  A proud graduate of the Queensbury High School Class of 1991, Jonathan was highly active in both academics and extracurricular activities. During his time at QHS, he balanced exceptional schoolwork with a wide array of pursuits, including football, basketball, tennis, swimming, the school band, and numerous student organizations. He was deeply loved by his classmates, who remember him for his genuine friendliness, quick humor, and ability to bring people together. Following high school, Jonathan pursued his passion for learning and service by earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont. He then completed his medical degree at the University of Connecticut, followed by his residency training to become a board-certified Internal Medicine physician. Jonathan dedicated more than 20 years of his adult life to practicing medicine, specializing in the care of adults with highly complex and challenging medical needs. Patients and colleagues alike knew him as a deeply compassionate clinician who approached medicine not just as a career, but as a calling to help those in need. Outside of his medical practice, Jonathan was an avid outdoorsman and a true connoisseur of music, holding a particular affection for 1970s rock and roll. He found great peace and joy in nature, spending much of his free time hiking, appreciating the wilderness, and caring for animals. Though Jonathan tragically passed away in 2025, his compassionate spirit lives on. This memorial scholarship is designed to honor a graduating student who reflects Jonathan’s unique combination of passions and personal virtues. The ideal recipient will be an individual who exemplifies true friendship, holds a deep compassion for those in need, and demonstrates a genuine care for the well-being of others. This  year’s recipient of the Jonathan Crane Roop Memorial Scholarship was Miles DeJohn.

Miles plans to attend SUNY Geneseo, where he will study biochemistry before pursuing medical school. His experiences as a Volunteer Queensbury EMS Junior EMT helped inspire his interest in medicine by providing firsthand exposure to patient care and emergency response. At QHS, Miles was active in Quiz Bowl, National Honor Society, football, and track and field, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork, service, and personal growth.

Lee Sanford Memorial Scholarship

Lee Sanford, QHS Class of 1996, was a standout athlete who excelled in football, valued teamwork, and always demonstrated great sportsmanship. He later built a successful career in Boston as a financial analyst. One of this  years recipients of the Lee Sanford Memorial Scholarship was Nathan Sheerer.

Nathan will attend Ithaca College this fall, where he plans to study Clinical Studies/Physical Therapy. A three-sport varsity athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, Nathan embraced every challenge, learning perseverance, leadership, and the importance of teamwork along the way. As captain of the varsity football team, a member of Captain’s Club, and a mentor to younger athletes through the Flag Football program, he demonstrated the character and sportsmanship this scholarship celebrates. Nathan also served as Class Secretary, where he learned to put the needs of others first, and found confidence in his academic accomplishments through the National Honor Society.

Adam Spero
Willaim W. Stark Memorial Scholarship

The William W. Stark Memorial Scholarship was established through the estate of William W. Stark, who passed away in March 2020 at the age of 90. Bill taught in the English Department at Queensbury High School from 1979 to 1992 and was responsible for introducing the AP English program. He was a teacher whose passion for literature, drama, and lifelong learning inspired generations of students, and will always be remembered for his love of a good story. After retiring, Bill moved to Cape Cod, where he continued to share his passion for literature by teaching in the Lifelong Learning program for over 20 years. He was widely admired as a true “Renaissance Man” who generously shared his knowledge with everyone around him. During his years at QHS, he was deeply respected and beloved by both students and colleagues. This year, the William Stark Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Adam Spero.

Adam will attend New York University this fall, where he plans to study Dramatic Writing with the goal of creating original stories that uphold creativity and integrity in the performing arts for both stage and film. Throughout his time at QHS, Adam distinguished himself as a gifted performer, bringing unforgettable characters such as Gomez Addams, Rooster in Annie, the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, and Lord Farquaad in Shrek to life on stage. His passion for storytelling also extended beyond performance through the Madrigal Singers, Tri-M Music Honor Society, the school newspaper, Seeing Blue literary magazine, and a rigorous college-level academic program. Adam was also a dedicated student-athlete in cross country and track & field.

Established in 2018, the Nicol/Stewart Clan Memorial Scholarship is the largest single monetary award given by the QCSA. The scholarship reflects the values of the Nicol/Stewart family, who have long believed in the power of education and community. During their years in Queensbury, Wendy and Ron Stewart, along with their three children, all QHS graduates, were deeply involved in the school and community. Cameron plans to attend SUNY Adirondack in the fall, to study Criminal Justice, driven by a strong desire to protect and serve his community while making a positive impact. As a volunteer firefighter, he has developed leadership, teamwork, and professional skills through extensive training and service. Cameron is also grateful for his experience in the Auto Technology CTE program, where he earned ASE certifications and gained valuable real-world skills. CPR certified and committed to helping others, he looks forward to continuing his service to his community in the future.

A member of the JV/Varsity Bowling Team, Owen has developed teamwork, sportsmanship, and strong social connections, earning several bowling trophies along the way. He has also been active as a Q-Club Counselor and was recognized with the iROC Golden Thumb Award at Six Flags Great Escape for his outstanding customer service and commitment to safety. Owen looks forward to making a positive impact as a future educator.

Through his volunteer work at The Landing at Queensbury, Brock built meaningful connections with residents while learning the value of empathy and service to others. Allie plans to study Criminal Justice at SUNY Adirondack with the goal of becoming a lawyer and advocating for fairness within the justice system. Inspired by her research into inequities in the misdemeanor system, she hopes to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Throughout high school, Allie participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters and volunteered teaching Spanish to fourth-grade students, experiences that strengthened her leadership and communication skills. Since the age of 14, she has balanced school with employment, developing a strong work ethic, valuable customer service skills, and financial responsibility. A motivated and determined student, Allie also achieved the distinction of graduating a year early as she prepares for the next chapter of her education.

Kevin M. Sullivan Scholarship

At the beginning of last school year, Kevin Sullivan announced that after 36 years as a School Counselor and Cross Country Running Coach, he would be retiring from Queensbury Union Free School District. Kevin has been the scholarship chairperson of the QCSA for the last 10 years, selflessly dedicating his time to the committee that provides so many opportunities for our graduating Seniors. Kevin has been a pillar of strength, diligence, tenacity, wit, grit, and compassion to so many students, parents, faculty members, administrators, and athletes over his time here. To honor Mr. Sullivan and his work with close to 12,000 students, the board of the QCSA established an honorary scholarship this year in Kevin’s name, as a tribute to an incredible career and to honor everything he has stood for over the last 36 years. The winner of this year’s 2022 Honorary Kevin M. Sullivan Scholarship went to Claudia Calby.

Claudia was Captain of both the Girls Cross Country and Track Teams. She says she has “made countless memories and strong friendships with my teammates,” and adds, “I am very inspired by Coach Sullivan, who has mentored me for these past four years. His dedication to running is commendable and I hope to be as passionate about my future career and endeavors as he is to this sport.” In addition to athletics, Claudia enjoyed volunteering in her community through the Key Club at school, the Glens Falls Lions Club with her family, and as a member of TAG, Queensbury’s Teen Advocacy Group, where Claudia supported her school community, “promoting wellness and positive behavioral choices.” This semester, Claudia is attending the University of Vermont. She plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and hopes to earn her doctorate in Physical Therapy, so that she may “one day help others to move more freely and with less pain as they heal from injuries or surgery.” The QCSA wishes you much success with your future Claudia!

Catherine Fleming Terry: Women in Stem Scholarship

Catherine Fleming Terry, the oldest of nine children of Irish immigrants, left her family farm after high school to pursue her dream of education. She attended Albany State Teachers’ College, which was tuition-free after World War II, making it possible for her to enroll. To support herself, Catherine lived with local families, doing housework in exchange for room and board. After earning her Master’s degree, she joined Queensbury High School in 1950, where she dedicated over 30 years to teaching and advising, including her work with the National Honor Society. Catherine believed deeply that education was the path to self-sufficiency and independence. In her honor, the Catherine Fleming Terry: Women in STEM Scholarship was presented to Chloe Zhao.

Chloe will attend Boston University this fall, where she plans to study Biochemistry as she prepares for a career in medicine, with additional interests in business and finance. Her love of chemistry, mathematics, and problem-solving reflects the curiosity and determination this scholarship celebrates. At QHS, Chloe co-founded the Creative Writing Club through her IB CAS Project, performed in Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band, and spent four years in Key Club serving her school and community through numerous volunteer activities, including mentoring younger students in music and French.

Al and Lee Wehlitz Memorial Scholarship

The Al and Lee Wehlitz Memorial Scholarship was established in 2014 by Dr. John Hicks and his family in memory of his parents, who were strong supporters of the performing arts and arts education. This award is designated for a student pursuing a career in performance, art, design, or other creative endeavors, reflecting the Wehlitz family’s commitment to fostering creativity and artistic expression. This year’s recipient of the Al and Lee Wehlitz Memorial Scholarship was Eleanor Paigo.

Eleanor will attend Rochester Institute of Technology this fall, where she plans to study Illustration, combining her lifelong love of art with her passion for storytelling through novels, films, and visual design. A talented artist and dedicated leader, Eleanor served as president of the Art Club for three years, inspiring fellow students while strengthening her own artistic journey. She also served as editor of Key Club, using her creativity to support the club’s service initiatives, and remained an active member of Book Club, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Madeline Buck
Anne White Memorial Scholarship

In September of 1963, when the high school building was first opened on the Queensbury school campus, Anne was in charge of establishing the new library. During her time as the high school librarian, Anne further served the district as a yearbook advisor for several graduating classes, and she also helped design the first college and career exploration program in cooperation with the counseling department. Anne’s interest in literature was coupled with a lifelong passion for writing, which flourished following her retirement. Over a period of several years, Anne wrote several mystery novels that incorporated many features of Lake George and life in this area. Anne was the recipient of several grants, awards, and accolades during this time as an established literary author. She was the recipient of the Malice Domestic Unpublished Writer Grant in 1999, and her first novel won the 2000 Dark Oak Mystery Contest.  Madeline Buck was honored this year as the recipient of the Anne White Memorial Scholarship.

Madeline will attend the University at Buffalo, where she plans to pursue a combined Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Science in Information and Library Science with the goal of becoming a librarian. Inspired by her love of literature and a desire to help others discover the joy of reading, Madeline has already begun building toward that future through an internship at Crandall Public Library. At QHS, she served as vice president of the Creative Writing Club, helped create the Seeing Blue Literary Arts Magazine, volunteered through National Honor Society, and gave her time to both her local library and school community.

Colin will be attending Paul Smith’s College of Arts and Sciences this fall to pursue a career in the culinary arts. His passion was strengthened through two years at the Career and Technical Education Center at BOCES, along with hands-on experience working with a family friend making, selling, and catering Texas BBQ. Colin also enjoyed sharing his skills as a member of Key Club, volunteering at events like Pizza & Wings Night to help support the Wait House.

Alyssa will be attending SUNY Adirondack this fall to study Early Childhood Education. Her most valued activity at QHS was cheerleading, where she loved the challenge of learning new skills and the fun of sharing the experience with friends.

Gracie will be attending SUNY Adirondack this fall to study Dietetics and Applied Nutrition. She also has a passion for baking and hopes to incorporate it into her future career. One of her most meaningful experiences at QHS was being part of Big Brothers Big Sisters, where she has loved mentoring her “Little” since freshman year. She also gained valuable skills in problem solving, communication, time management, and leadership while working as a hostess at Bailey’s in Saratoga. Through her involvement in Key Club, French Honor Society, and National Honor Society, Gracie was able to give back to the community and see the importance of service and helping others.

Markus will be attending SUNY Adirondack this fall to study Broadcast Media & Production. Participation in the QHS Musical, Pride Club, and NCBI gave Markus a platform for self-expression, helped confirm a career path, and created opportunities to connect with new people.

One of this year’s recipients was Analiese Mastantuono.

Analiese will be attending Binghamton University this fall, where her plans include exploring a path in Criminal Justice or Medicine with the goal of pursuing a career centered on helping others. Analiese has always had a passion for the arts, earning numerous awards and serving as President of the Queensbury Chapter of the National Art Honor Society, where creating opportunities for others to experience art brought great joy. Analiese also enjoyed working with local children as a counselor with Q-Club, as well as being part of the Queensbury Climate Action Club, collaborating with like-minded peers to make positive changes for the environment.

Angelo Palma
Community Involvement Award

Through their involvement both in school and throughout the community, these students have generously given their time and talents to make a difference for others. One of this year’s recipients was Angelo Palma.

Angelo will be attending the Northeast College of Health Sciences to study Radiology Technology, pursuing a career dedicated to helping others. Angelo is grateful for the internships that guided him toward health care, including a college course through SUNY in Athletic Training and an opportunity to shadow a Physical Therapist at a local clinic. A dedicated four-year wrestler, Angelo also values the many life lessons learned on the mat, resilience, discipline, and the ability to thrive under pressure.

The QCSA “Community Involvement” Award recognizes seniors whose community involvement, sustained energy, and genuine commitment to service have distinguished them throughout their time at QHS. Through their involvement both in school and throughout the community, these students have generously given their time and talents to make a difference for others. One of this year’s recipients was Amelia Shattuck.

Amelia will be attending Alfred State this fall to study Construction Management, pursuing a career that allows for hands-on work. At QHS, Amelia was a four-year member of the Cheer Team, participating in both athletic and competition cheer and serving as Captain for two years, an experience that strengthened leadership skills and teamwork. She was also grateful for the opportunity to be part of the BOCES CTE Construction Trades Program, where she explored her interest in construction management while gaining valuable skills in project management and analytical problem-solving.

Catalina Sumner
Community Involvement Award

The QCSA “Community Involvement” Award recognizes seniors whose community involvement, sustained energy, and genuine commitment to service have distinguished them throughout their time at QHS. Through their involvement both in school and throughout the community, these students have generously given their time and talents to make a difference for others. One of this year’s recipients was Catalina Sumner.

Catalina will be attending Cedarville University this fall to study Athletic Training. Since the age of six, Catalina has been a dedicated and passionate dancer with the Dance Center of Queensbury, performing in many capacities and assisting with the teaching of younger students. She has also been an active member of the National Art Honor Society, enjoying opportunities to share her creativity, whether painting sets for the high school musical or decorating doors for the school’s annual contest.

Alayna Viault

One of this year’s recipients was Alayna Viault.

Alayna will be attending Alfred State College to pursue a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Alayna is grateful for her time on the QHS Cheer Team, for the fast friendships, the confidence gained in connecting with others, and especially the joy of cheering for the Unified Basketball Games, where she formed lasting bonds with participants. She also valued her involvement in the NHS, which gave her insight into the needs of the community and provided meaningful opportunities to give back.

Ethan Dixon
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Ethan Dixon.

Ethan will be attending SUNY Polytechnic Institute this fall to study Mechanical Engineering. He found his community as a dedicated member of the Queensbury VEX Robotics Team, where he served as Vice President during his senior year, and also took on the role of Vice President of the Chemistry Club. Ethan enjoyed the opportunity to share his knowledge through the World Language Club, working with young children to teach Spanish. He was also honored with the prestigious Project Lead the Way Medal for completing the dual-enrollment PLTW Engineering program.

William Ball
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was William Ball.

William will be attending SUNY Adirondack in the fall with hopes of one day serving as a Police Officer and working with the K-9 Unit, combining his career goals with his love of working with dogs. During his time at QHS, William enjoyed being a part of the Anime Club and Unified Bowling.

Sean Brindle
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Sean Brindle.

Sean will be attending SUNY Adirondack this fall to study Business Management, inspired by his parents’ business ownership. At QHS, Sean enjoyed participating in after-school activities such as badminton and pickleball, appreciating both the fun and the time spent with friends. He was also grateful for the support of his teachers, especially their willingness to offer extra help after school. A highlight of his high school years was prom, which Sean described as “a once-in-a-lifetime event that they made a night to remember.”

Nakai Carota-Holke
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Nakai Carota-Holke.

Nakai will be attending the University at Buffalo this fall, where he plans to study Business Administration/Management and Information Systems. A dedicated member of the Varsity Basketball team, Nakai rallied with his teammates to help fundraise for a beloved coach and his family during a difficult time. He was proud to be inducted into the Business and Marketing Honor Society and enjoyed exploring markets through the Young Investors Club. Nakai is also grateful for the valuable skills he gained through his part-time job at The Glen at Hiland Meadows.

Branson Denno
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Branson Denno.

Branson will be attending the University of South Carolina this fall, where he plans to explore career paths in Finance or Pre-Law. A lifelong hockey player since the age of two, Branson was a key contributor to the Varsity Hockey program at QHS all four years. He also valued the many service opportunities that hockey provided, whether through food drives, Power the Rink, or months of fundraising to support a selected local family in need, experiences that taught him the importance of giving to others. One of the highlights of Branson’s high school years was participating in Unified Sports, where he was grateful to share his love of athletics with his step-brother Cole and other students who may not always have the opportunity to play organized sports. Reflecting on his journey, Branson shared: “Spending countless hours as a member of these teams has given me greater patience, empathy, and has built my overall character. But most of all, it gave me a purpose in life: to take advantage of every opportunity I’m given to the fullest extent.”

Parker Dixon
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Parker Dixon.

Parker will be attending SUNY Oneonta to study Music Industry, continuing his love of performing on bass, guitar, and keyboard, with aspirations of becoming a recording and performing artist. Parker has been involved in robotics since 5th grade and served as Treasurer of the VEX team at QHS, where he learned patience, level-headedness, and the value of thinking outside the box. He also enjoyed mentoring younger students through the World Language Club. Parker is especially proud of his Capstone Project, Out for the Summer cabaret, which he hopes contributed to strengthening the arts at QHS and would be grateful if it were to be carried on by future students.

Sylvia Gale
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Sylvia Gale.

Sylvia will be attending SUNY Adirondack to study English, with hopes of one day earning her Master’s Degree and becoming an English Teacher in the Queensbury Union Free School District. She shared that the BRIDGES program was the most influential part of her experience at QHS, helping her flourish and inspiring her to work with students in the future. Sylvia also valued the friendships she made through the Game Club, and her Educational Internship at QMS further confirmed her decision to pursue a career in teaching.

Logan Harppinger
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Logan Harppinger.

Logan will be attending SUNY Adirondack this fall to study Cyber Security. He was grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Early College Career Academy at SUNY ADK, which will allow him to complete his degree in just one year before transferring to pursue his Bachelor’s. At QHS, Logan discovered his passion through the Video Production Club and proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the remarkable age of 14 in March 2022. Outside of school, his greatest love is downhill skiing, a sport he has enjoyed at West Mountain since the age of 7.

Miguel Ramirez-Chaidez
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Miguel Ramirez-Chaidez.

Miguel will be attending the University at Albany this fall to study Accounting. He has dedicated himself to his studies through Project Lead the Way Engineering classes at RIT and college-level dual enrollment courses through SUNY. Outside of the classroom, Miguel has gained valuable life skills, including time management and responsibility, while working as a lifeguard at the Great Escape and helping with a family member’s cleaning business.

Bennett Stroebel
School Citizen Award

The QCSA “School Citizen” Scholarship Award honors students who truly embody school spirit, strong character, and a genuine commitment to embracing school life and activities. One of this year’s recipients was Bennett Stroebel .

Bennett will be attending SUNY Adirondack this fall to study Hospitality Management, inspired by a lifelong connection to the hospitality industry. Since the age of 14, he has gained hands-on experience working at The Great Escape as a Scare Actor and at The Sagamore Resort in several roles, including Rec Center Attendant, Lifeguard, and Store Room Clerk. At QHS, Bennett’s favorite club was the Video Production Club, where he enjoyed creating and producing the morning school news broadcast, serving as the News Producer.

 Zavry Ward
Class of 2025 Award

The Class of 2025 Scholarship was created to honor students who went above and beyond in supporting our Phone-a-thon efforts. These dedicated seniors exemplify commitment, school spirit, and service, while also contributing to many other school and community activities. One of this year’s recipients was Zavry Ward.

This fall, Zavry will be attending Monroe University to study Business and Supply Chain Management. A three-year Captain of the football team, Zavry loved the game but valued even more the opportunity to give back, volunteering three times a week each summer to coach and mentor in the youth program. He also served as President of the French National Honor Society, where he enjoyed sharing his love of the language and organizing study nights for younger students. As an officer with the Future Business Leaders of America, Zavry gained valuable insight into his intended field by helping to organize meetings with local businesses. Most importantly, through all of these experiences Zavry reflected, “I learned to respect diverse perspectives and work together effectively.”

The Class of 2025 Scholarship was created to honor students who went above and beyond in supporting our Phone-a-thon efforts. These dedicated seniors exemplify commitment, school spirit, and service, while also contributing to many other school and community activities. One of this year’s recipients was Sarah McCray.

 Sarah will be attending Vermont State University to explore Archeology and Anthropology. Sarah is grateful she chose to take on the challenges of the IB Program at QHS, where she persevered and built wonderful friendships along the way. She served as Vice President of NCBI, passionate about helping others feel more comfortable and supported, and as Treasurer of the National Art Honor Society. She shares special thanks to the Art Department at QHS, especially Mrs. Carson and Mrs. Wright, for inspiring her and providing meaningful opportunities for self-expression through art.

Keith Miller
Class of 2025 Award

The Class of 2025 Scholarship was created to honor students who went above and beyond in supporting our Phone-a-thon efforts. These dedicated seniors exemplify commitment, school spirit, and service, while also contributing to many other school and community activities. One of this year’s recipients was Keith Miller.

 Keith will be attending the Massachusetts Maritime Academy this fall, concentrating in Emergency Management with aspirations of one day joining the U.S. Coast Guard. As a dedicated member of the Wrestling and Lacrosse teams, he learned valuable life lessons, teamwork, camaraderie, what it takes to win, and just as importantly, how to handle losses. Along the way, he built many lasting friendships. Keith was also proud to be inducted into the National Honor Society and enjoyed giving back to his community through countless volunteer opportunities.

Maya Starr
Class of 2025 Award

The Class of 2025 Scholarship was created to honor students who went above and beyond in supporting our Phone-a-thon efforts. These dedicated seniors exemplify commitment, school spirit, and service, while also contributing to many other school and community activities. One of this year’s recipients was Maya Starr.

Maya will be attending the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, aspiring to become a Doctor of Pharmacy. Maya proudly served as a member of the National Honor Society, where she enjoyed giving back through acts of service and volunteering at Kingsbury Seventh Day Church and the Open Door Mission. She is also grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at McCann’s Pharmacy, an experience that confirmed her passion for her future career.

Xiao Ying Cheng Wu

The Class of 2025 Scholarship was created to honor students who went above and beyond in supporting our Phone-a-thon efforts. These dedicated seniors exemplify commitment, school spirit, and service, while also contributing to many other school and community activities. One of this year’s recipients was Xiao Ying Cheng Wu.

This fall, Xiao will be attending Manhattan University, where she plans to study Law with the goal of one day representing those who are less fortunate. At QHS, she discovered her passion for law through Mock Trial, where she strengthened her public speaking and critical thinking skills. Her participation in Youth and Government gave her valuable insight into our country’s political system and how government works. Xiao also found great meaning in giving back through Key Club, where she valued the impact she could make in the lives of others through community service.
